Turning your Mattress

A question that keeps cropping up from our customers is... how often should I turn my mattress?

Turning and/or rotating a mattress will greatly prolong the life of your new purchase. Different mattresses need different types of care, let us explain why...

Establish if your mattress is single or double sided?

This is the first important step. Find this out by looking at the label of the product as this will usually tell you if the product needs turning or not. If the label doesn't state this, there are other ways you can find out. Look at both sides of your mattress and see if it has the same fabric used on both sides. Unless you have brought a seasonal mattress, (cool on one side and warm on the other) two different fabrics usually means the product will be single sided. If you are confused or need some more help to determine this then contact one of our sleep experts on 0333 014 7733 or customerservices@ownfurniture.co.uk. We are always here to help!

Single sided mattresses

All single sided mattresses only needs to be rotated head to toe. By doing this you are dispersing weight equally over the surface of the mattress and preventing any excess dipping in the product. If you have purchased a new single sided mattress then we recommend that this is rotated weekly for the first 2 - 3 months. This is so important when your mattress is new as the fillings do not start to settle until weight is applied. By doing this, after the settlement period has finished it will leave your mattress with an even sleeping surface. After this period we still recommend to rotate the product monthly.

Double sided mattresses

All double sided mattresses need to be turned and rotated. Turning and rotating gives you four different sleeping surfaces on the product and allows you to disperse the weight even better than on a single sided mattress. We recommend rotating or flipping the mattress once a week for the first 2 - 3 months and then just monthly after. Make sure you make use of all sleeping surfaces by turning the first week and rotating the next and so on. This is vital in the first few months of owning your new mattress as this allows the fillings to settle evenly preventing any excess dipping. If you do not turn or rotate it, it will be lumpy and bumpy in no time and nobody wants that!

Important Advice

Failure to rotate or turn the mattress can invalidate your warranty/guarantee. It's important to take care of your mattress, so it can take care of you.
