Organising your Home
A place for everything and everything in its place. If only it were that easy. For some of us, organisation comes easily, but for many others the tasks mount up until they are overwhelming. Reclaim your space with these eight tips.
Pick one room to tackle at a time. If you look at your home as a whole, organisation can seem very daunting. It’s worth reminding yourself that every big job can be broken down into manageable, smaller tasks. Try starting off with your bedroom so that you have a sanctuary to retreat to when your day is over. Cleaning out the wardrobe or sorting through that chair of clothes in the corner of your room can be done in an afternoon.
Give yourself a time frame. If you like to have goals, set a timer but don’t go overboard. Put your favourite playlist on and get those endorphins flowing whilst getting your home in order.
If in doubt, throw it out. Be as objective as you can and keep only the most special keepsakes. Chances are if you haven’t worn it or looked at it in over six months, you may not need it.
Ask for help. If you know that you will struggle to say goodbye to some of those items you’re sorting through, ask a friend or loved one for their opinion. They may be able to convince you to get rid of the box of magazines that you’ve had since 2010.
Take the rubbish out straight away. Don’t spend too much time lingering or you may just find yourself cramming all that stuff back into the wardrobe. Procrastinate and you may find yourself having the same problem all over again in six months time.
Recycle. Charities like Sue Ryder or the British Heart Foundation may come and take surplus furniture and larger items off of your hands. These items will then be sold on to raise money, instead of them ending up in landfill. The environment will thank you for recycling.
If you have the time, sell it. Need a little extra cash? You could do a good old-fashioned car boot sale or you could sell your unwanted items online. The most important thing is getting rid of stuff that is crowding your space and bringing you down.
