Why Choose Coloured Furniture?

One coloured piece changes a room more than a tin of paint, costs less than redecorating, and can be carried out again if you change your mind.

Pick Your Palette

Four colours that do the most work in a home.

Green

The colour that has quietly taken over British homes, and the easiest bold choice to live with because it reads as natural rather than loud. Sage suits a hallway or kitchen, deeper reed and kale greens hold their own as a full bedroom wardrobe against white or off-white walls.
Shop

Blue

Calm rather than cold if you pick the right depth. Pale and pastel blues open up a small bedroom, navy and gloss finishes give a room weight and pair particularly well with oak tops and brass or gold handles. A safe first step if you have only ever bought white or grey.
Shop

Pink

Not only for children's rooms, though it does that job brilliantly. Gloss pink is bold and wipeable for a kid's wardrobe, while pink and white two-tone chests and soft velvet beds read as grown-up and warm. It sits better against grey and cream walls than against bright white.
Shop

Black

The bold choice that behaves like a neutral. Black anchors a room, gives pale walls and floors something to push against, and hides marks better than anything else here. Best used on one or two pieces rather than a whole room, unless the space has plenty of natural light.

What is coloured furniture?

Coloured furniture is anything that breaks from plain wood and plain white: painted and gloss wardrobes, chests, cabinets and bedsides, two-tone designs that pair a colour with an oak top, and upholstered pieces in velvet and fabric. There are more than 1,700 of them here.

It is the cheapest way to change how a room feels. A single coloured piece against neutral walls does the work of a whole decorating scheme, costs far less than redecorating, and can be moved to another room if you tire of it.

Colour on wood, not just on fabric

Most of this range is painted and gloss cabinet furniture rather than upholstery. The Diego 2 Door 2 Drawer Wardrobe comes in a deep reed green with gold fittings, and the Highbury 3 Door Triple Wardrobe in a softer kale green. The Denver 2 Door Double Wardrobe is the same wardrobe in blue gloss or pink gloss, which is a useful way to see how much difference the finish alone makes. For a hallway, the Lancaster 2 Door Shoe Storage Cabinet comes in sage green.

Two-tone and upholstered

If a full colour feels like too much, two-tone splits the difference: the Camden 6 Drawer Chest pairs pink with white so the colour reads as a detail rather than the whole piece. On the upholstered side, the Amelia Velvet Bed brings pink velvet into a bedroom, and the Lucerne Velvet Accent Chair adds grey velvet to a corner without committing the whole room.

How much colour is enough

Start with one piece and live with it before adding more. Coloured furniture works hardest against neutral walls, because the contrast does the styling for you. If you want to go further, repeat the colour in something small and cheap, a cushion or a lamp, rather than buying a second large piece in the same shade. Two big pieces in one colour tips a room from decorated into themed, and it is a much more expensive mistake to undo.

Delivery and assembly

Order before 12pm and thousands of our in-stock products arrive the next working day, with free delivery on thousands of products. Some ranges arrive fully assembled and others are flat-pack; the product page says which, and our in-home assembly service can be added there.

Coloured furniture FAQs

What counts as coloured furniture?

Anything that is not plain wood or plain white. In this range that means painted and gloss cabinets, wardrobes, chests and bedsides in green, blue, pink, black and yellow, two-tone designs pairing a colour with oak, and upholstered pieces in velvet and fabric.

Is coloured furniture hard to live with?

Less than people expect. The easiest approach is one coloured piece against neutral walls, which does the work of a whole scheme on its own. Trouble usually comes from committing a whole room at once rather than from the colour itself.

Which colour should I choose?

Start with what is already in the room: the wall colour, the flooring and anything you are keeping. Then decide whether you want the new piece to blend or to stand out. Sage and navy are the gentlest first steps; black and yellow ask more of the room around them.

Does coloured furniture work in a small room?

Yes, though depth matters more than colour. A single dark or bold piece gives a small room a focal point and makes it feel deliberate. Covering every wall-facing surface in a dark colour is what makes a small room feel smaller, not the colour itself.

Is coloured furniture wipe-clean?

Gloss and painted finishes wipe down with a damp cloth, which is why they suit children's rooms. Velvet and fabric need more care and a darker shade if you have pets or young children. Every product page lists the material before you order.

How long does delivery take on coloured furniture?

Order before 12pm and thousands of our in-stock products arrive the next working day. Made-to-order ranges run to 7 to 14 working days. The expected date is on every product page, and you can choose your delivery date at checkout.

Can I spread the cost?

Flexible finance and buy now pay later options are available at checkout, subject to status. The plans appear on the product page and again at checkout, which helps if you are changing a whole room rather than adding one piece.
