What is living room furniture?

Living room furniture is everything that turns a room with a television in it into somewhere you want to sit: sofas, armchairs and recliners, TV units, coffee and lamp tables, footstools, sideboards and bookcases. It is the room most households use most, so the seating matters first.

Start with how many people sit down on a normal evening, not how many visit at Christmas. Measure the wall the sofa will sit against and the doorway it has to come through. Once those two numbers are settled, style is the easy part.

Sofas and chairs

What furniture do I need for a living room?

Seating for the people who actually sit down, somewhere for the television, and a surface within reach of the sofa. That is the working minimum. Footstools, sideboards, bookcases and lamp tables come after, for storage and comfort.

How do I choose the right sofa size?

Measure the wall it will sit against, then leave about 45cm between sofa and coffee table and around 75cm for anywhere people walk past. Two-seaters here start near 147cm and three-seaters run to about 183cm. Full dimensions are on every product page.

Will a sofa fit through my door?

This is the measurement people forget. Check every doorway, hallway and stair turn on the way to the room, against the sofa's depth and height as well as its width. Several of our sofas have detachable backs and feet, which makes it easier.

Do I have to assemble living room furniture myself?

Most of the range is flat-pack, though sofas are often simpler than that suggests, with just the back and feet to attach. Each product page says which. If you would rather not, add our in-home assembly service from our partner Screwdriver there.

How will a large item like a sofa be delivered?

Larger and heavier items qualify for our free two man service, where a team brings the piece to the room of your choice rather than leaving it at the door. Whether an item qualifies is shown on its product page. Everything else comes by doorstep service.

How long does delivery take on living room furniture?

Can I spread the cost?
