What is high gloss furniture?

Does high gloss furniture show fingerprints?

Yes, more than a matt finish, and it is fair to know before you buy. The trade-off is that it wipes off in seconds with a dry microfibre cloth, where matt surfaces hold marks that need actual cleaning. Somewhere children touch constantly, expect a quick wipe most days.

How do I clean high gloss furniture?

A soft, dry or barely damp microfibre cloth handles day-to-day dust and marks. Avoid abrasive sprays, scouring pads and anything harsh, which dull the lacquer over time. Warm water on the cloth is enough for most things.

Does gloss scratch easily?

Scratches show more on gloss than matt because the surface is smooth and reflective, so light catches them. Do not drag objects across the top, and use felt pads or coasters under anything with a hard base. Damage that does happen is difficult to disguise.

Will it fade in sunlight?

Long spells of strong direct sunlight can discolour a lacquered finish, and white gloss shows it most. Position pieces away from a south-facing window where you can, or use a blind to diffuse the light rather than letting it fall on the surface all afternoon.

Is gloss furniture good for a small room?

It is one of the better choices. The reflective surface bounces whatever light the room has further into it, which makes a small or north-facing bedroom feel larger than its floor area. White gloss does most, black and grey rather less.
