What is a tallboy drawer chest?
A tallboy is a chest of drawers built upwards rather than outwards. Instead of four or six drawers spread along a metre of wall, you get four to seven of them stacked in a footprint roughly the width of a bedside table. The storage is much the same. The floor it takes up is not.
That makes it the piece that solves rooms other furniture cannot: box rooms where a standard chest would foul the door swing, the alcoves either side of a chimney breast, the dead wall at the end of a landing, or a rented flat where every inch is already spoken for.
Flat-pack or ready assembled?
This range holds both, and the difference shows up in the lead time as much as the price. The flat-pack designs, mostly Seconique ranges such as the Dakota Narrow Tallboy and the Seville Narrow Tallboy, are held in stock and can arrive the next working day. The assembled chests from Welcome Furniture and Heritage Designs are built to order, so they take longer, and they turn up with the drawers already in and running.
Which size fits your room?
Measure the wall, then measure the swing. A tallboy's drawers pull out a long way relative to its width, so the clearance in front of it matters more than people expect. Five drawers is the standard here. Four drawer designs such as the Contrast Narrow Tallboy sit lower, and the Marlborough 7 Drawer Chest goes taller again for a room with height to spare.
Finishes and ranges
White and grey lead the range, in matt and in gloss, with oak, ash, Kashmir and waxed pine behind them. Gold hairpin legs appear on the Diamond tallboy, and the Vienna pairs a painted body with a real oak top. Buying within one range is the simplest way to match a tallboy to a bedside cabinet or a wardrobe you already own.

Tallboy drawer chest FAQs
Are tallboy drawer chests delivered assembled?
Some are and some are not, so check the badge on the product card. Most of this range carries a Delivered Assembled badge and arrives fully built with the drawers already fitted. The flat-pack designs are clearly marked and come with instructions and fixings.
How long does delivery take?
It depends which chest you choose. The flat-pack tallboys are held in stock and can arrive the next working day if you order before 12pm. Assembled chests are built to order and run from 3 to 14 working days depending on the range, with the expected date shown on the product page.
Will it fit through my door and up the stairs?
A tallboy is usually easier to get upstairs than a wide chest, because the narrow dimension is the one that has to turn the corner. Assembled chests arrive built, so the carton is the size of the chest itself. Check the width and depth on the product page before you order.
Should I fix it to the wall?
Any tall, narrow chest is worth securing to the wall, and that goes double in a home with young children. Check the instructions supplied with your chest for the recommended fixing point and use a fixing suited to your wall type.
What if it is not right when it arrives?
Returns are accepted on the majority of products within 30 days. Tell us by email within 14 days of delivery, keep the original packaging and get the chest back within 30 days. You can return it yourself or ask us to quote for an insured collection.
What are these chests made from?
Most of the range is MDF with a painted, matt or gloss finish. Waxed pine and a small number of solid wood chests are stocked alongside them. Wipe the fronts with a soft, slightly damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners, particularly on gloss.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Flexible finance and buy now pay later options are available at checkout, subject to status. Product pages show an indicative monthly figure so you can see what a chest works out at before you reach the basket.
